I once received a post from one of my Spinone list of Madge's winning photo
pictured below. Being her breeder, I proudly stated that she was an awesome
example of the breed. I was asked to explain why I would use such a strong
comment about this young pup. Here is what I replied:
Everyone has a different eye, everyone wants something different. We as
breeders, have an obligation to breed to the best of our knowledge and to
breed healthy. Not an easy task for any of us.
As we all know, Madge is a puppy she will change.
Because I am judging her first hand and not from the scanned resized photo, I
can say Madge is strongly muscled and even at her age has substantial
substance (bone). Her body is nicely square. Coat coarse at the correct length
and lays flat. Skin thick, top line is starting to get that slight rise over
the loan that is developed with muscle and maturity. Ribs well sprung. Her
hock to the ground is about 1/3 her height. A lovely, lovely head and muzzle
has divergent plane. Big spongy nose. Eyes tight and well set apart. Ears long
and low set. Muzzle is the same length as her skull with that roman nose. Bite
is scissor. Shoulder has good angulation. Her rear is wonderful, hocks
parallel and don't turn in, all making Madge's movement to die for.
Madge has a very strong hunting instinct. Most
importantly of all she is a sweet, sweet love and the apple of her owners eye.

RESERVE WINNERS BITCH: MOUNTAIN VALLEY IMAGINE THAT
Words from the Judge:
The reserve bitch for me had some lovely qualities, good outline, well
up on leg, very sound and a pleasing expression. However, she is slighter in
body and bone than I would have preferred... yet my other choices were bitches
that in my opinion were too low on leg and therefore lost the breed outline
and make and shape that I would want to breed from. This bitch would make a
good brood bitch for someone. She is free of structural faults and has a great
purpose in a breeding program.
Congratulations To Debby Forry And Mountain Valley Imagine That "Madge" For Taking Best Of Breed At 6 Months
